PREFACE

I do not believe any Bible prophet was able to foresee the future. The belief that they could has caused untold damage with its influence on politics especially in relation to Israel and Babylon. We have seen the harm this has resulted in for Iraq and Palestine. Its entirely possible that mad Christian fundamentalist President George Bush may have attacked Iraq more because Saddam Hussein was rebuilding Babylon in contradiction of Bible prophecy than for any other reason. Yet you can’t be a true Christian if you disown these vile and bloodthirsty activities. The crafty pope doesn’t remind his prospective converts of that!

The most bizarre fact is that Bible prophecies that condemn the Roman Catholic Church as the whore of Babylon and the pope as one who leads you away from the real Jesus are spot on the mark as regards seeing events that hadn’t happened yet though they were written before the Roman Church was founded by Constantine and Pope Damasus I when they pulled a lump of the Church away from its roots forming another Church that claimed identity with the old. I am not saying the Roman Church is the whore of Babylon but that the Bible says it. This would mean that every member of the Roman Church and Anglo-Catholics and Eastern Orthodox who are close in theology to the Roman Church are members of the whore. They are parts of her body. They are evil according to the Bible and whoever befriends them is also accused by this book of being evil (2 John 10,11). It implies that the pope should be opposed like he was the Devil himself for he is the head of the Devil’s organisation. He is the ringleader.

BABYLON

The Book of Revelation tells us that the Roman Catholic Church is a godless pagan organisation which it calls the whore of Babylon or Babylon the Great. Her title in full according to Revelation 17 is Mystery Babylon the Great, The Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the Earth. Revelation takes its symbols from the Old Testament.  Woman is used as a symbol of a Church "I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman"  (Jeremiah 6:2).  Whore is a bad woman meaning bad Church.  Who is the whore sold to?  To whom does she sell herself?  The answer Revelation gives is to the kings of the earth.  She is not an empire that takes over them.  She is a religion they embrace.

Babylon is the Greek form of the name of the city in what is now Iraq. The name is Babilu. It means the Gate of God (Helps to the Study of the Bible, page 188).  Ancient Babylon, though it was a powerful pagan city, to many would seem hardly the perfect name for the evil personified figure in Revelation. It meant Gate of God. And Babylon was not as good a symbol of evil or paganism as Egypt was. But if the author of Revelation wanted to use Babylon as the symbol for a Church that claimed to be the Gate of God or the one true Church or the way to Heaven then he was spot on. He picked the right name.

The Mystery Babylon is a religion because a political empire or commercial one is no mystery. Every religion claims to serve mystery and be mystery. John as good as wrote that she was Religion Babylon the Great, in other words, the most powerful religion that ever graced the earth. Roman Catholicism fits the bill.

The ancient godless city of Babylon was destroyed so what does Babylon stand for here? The proof that this is not the Roman Empire which existed when the book was written is that no hint is given that the whore is an empire or a kingdom in the political sense. It is a spiritual kingdom, the Catholic Church is a spiritual kingdom with Pope as Emperor and the priests and bishops under him to help him rule. The merchants of the world mourn Babylon at a distance as she is destroyed so she is not a commercial or political empire though she may get involved in both.  Pagan Rome is referred to in Romans 13 by Paul the apostle as having been set up by God to administer justice and he tells believers to respect it.  Pagan Rome was not unusually evil.  It was evil in the sense that its religion was false.  Those who look at the Catholic Church and don't see enough hatred and evil in that faith should not conclude that it cannot be the Whore of Babylon.

New Light on the Most Ancient East, by V. Childe who was an archaeologist (1957, page 185) says that Babylon used the cross as a major symbol. “The swastika and the cross, common on stamps and plaques, were religious or magical symbols as in Babylonia and Elam in the earliest prehistoric period.” The Cross is the major symbol of Catholicism.

Babylon is not a symbol for Jerusalem as some wish. Babylon was the ancient capital of paganism that was considered reprobate by God and totally hostile to truth. Jerusalem was the city of the Jews which could by no means be given such an awful symbol as the Jews were the true faith supposedly until they revolted into the changes made for Judaism by Christ. But even then they were better than the pagans.  Babylon was Rome. Scholars disagree on whether it was pagan Rome or Rome masquerading as Christianity that was meant.

We read about Christian martyrs whose bodies will be exposed in the city called Sodom and Egypt where their Lord Jesus was crucified (Revelation 11:8).  This is undoubtedly referring to Jerusalem.  So Jerusalem had got its nicknames, Sodom and Egypt.  Babylon was another city and only Rome could be that city.

Why does Revelation refer to the capital city of Judaism as Sodom and Egypt?  Sodom indicates sexual depravity and Egypt paganism.  Clearly it was Jerusalem as a Roman centre that was meant.  Jerusalem never had much power in the world as the whore has in his vision. At the time John wrote, Jerusalem belonged to Rome not the Jews.

Revelation 18:20, 24 reports gloating over the fall of the whore.  It calls on saints and apostles and prophets to rejoice for God has judged her for the way she treated them. Catholics say apostles only existed in the first century because to be an apostle you had to see the risen Jesus.  But the text does not say it meant the top apostles.  The Catholics know fine well that the word apostle was used to describe people who didn't have visions but who were merely missionaries.  The text does not say it mean the official twelve apostles.  The Church always used the word apostle and prophet loosely at times to speak of people who were not regarded as additional apostles to the 12 or as prophets with full authority.

Catholics say that the whore is not the beast.  This is correct.  The book says she rides on the back of the beast.  They say she is in an alliance with the seven-headed Beast from Revelation 13:1–10. That Beast was the symbol of pagan rule.  We know this for the symbolism used to describe the best takes animal elements from four major pagan empires (compare Revelation 13:1–2 with Daniel. 7:1–8).  Catholics are mistaken to assume that the beast is pagan Rome and the whore is Jerusalem.  The two were NOT in an alliance.  That is a Catholic lie.  The woman rides the beast and controls it.  JERUSALEM NEVER CONTROLLED ROME BUT THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH DID CONTROL ROME!  Babylon is described as the Mother of Harlots and of ALL the world's abominations.  The beast is one expression of those abominations and she is his mother.  Now you see that clerical child abuse is not the only thing that top level Catholics cover up.

The Catholics say that the woman sits on seven mountains but Rome sits on seven hills not mountains.  Revelation is symbolically exaggerating the hills as mountains to indicate the significance of the whore.  The seven hills of Rome are meant.  They are the seven most important hills in the world so they are represented as mountains to reflect that.  The Catholics note that the seven mountains are symbols of seven kings five of whom have fallen and one lives now and the last is yet to come and will reign briefly (Revelation 17:10).  Would she sit on seven kings?  Not literally.  The Catholics use this to argue that just like the whore was said to sit on many waters and the waters represented people that her sitting on the mountains was not intended to indicate where she was sitting. 

Ask yourself this.  We are told the whore sits on seven mountains.  Then we are told the seven mountains stand for seven kings.  But we know the whore as an empire can have her seat on seven hills meaning the city of Rome and these seven hills can be used as symbols for the kings.  A symbol does not have to refer to
one and only one thing.  Revelation gives us no reason to deny that the whore really ruled from the seven hills geographically.   Therefore we must interpret it as saying she did.

The Catholics observe that the seven mountains on which the whore reposes are symbols of seven kings five of whom have fallen and one lives now and the last is yet to come and will reign briefly (Revelation 17:10).  They argue that the whore is not the Catholic Church for the writer refers to a king who lives in his day.  The writer was writing in the first century and the Catholic Church had only existed a few decades and not long enough for five kings to have gone.  The Catholics think as we have seen, that the whore is Jerusalem.  They think the kings are the Roman emperors.  But the Roman emperors were not Jews.  If they were dominated by the whore and the whore was Jewish Jerusalem they would have been Jews. 

It was an angel not the writer who spoke of the sixth king as reigning then.  Let's look at the context.  The writer sees the woman.  The angel says he will explain the symbolism of the woman and the beast that carries her.  He says the beast existed once but does not exist now.  He says it will appear again one more time and then will be destroyed forever.  He says the men of the world will marvel how the beast that once existed and now does not exist will exist again.  He says the woman sits on seven hills which can be understood also as symbols.  They stand for seven kings and the sixth reigns and the seventh is yet to come.  The angel means the king only reigns at the time depicted not in real time.  So it is not true that the author of Revelation pinpointed the existence of the whore in his own day.

Since Jerusalem had no line of kings in the first century that matches what the Angel said.  The beast then was not Jerusalem.  It was not the Rome of the writer's day.  It was future Rome.  We know that Babylon was used as a nickname for Rome.

Nothing tells us in Revelation that the whore existed when Revelation was written.  Therefore pagan Rome as evil as it was was not the whore.  The whore was its successor - so-called Christian Rome.

Jesus blamed the Pharisees for the blood of all the saints and Revelation blames Babylon. But Revelation sees the whore as a manifestation of an evil occult power that always worked against God so the power that became Roman Catholicism could have influenced the Pharisees. The argument that the whore is Jerusalem because Jesus said the Pharisees were to blame for all that bloodshed is invalid. The Pharisees were not necessarily Jerusalem men or representative of it.

The whore rests on seven hills which are believed to be the seven hills of Rome.  The whore is Catholic Rome. 

Some object that the Vatican City which is only a tiny part of Rome and not on the seven hills cannot be the centre of the whore of Babylon for the whore is on seven hills in Revelation 17:9. But that has only been the case with the Vatican in the larger part of the twentieth century. The Vatican is still part of Rome though it is a separate state from Italy. The Book of Revelation does not mean that the entire headquarters of the evil empire will be spread out on the seven hills but that the city that will be the headquarters will be spread out. The size of the Vatican is irrelevant. The Vatican is only a city-state within Rome that rules the whole of Rome, its diocese, spiritually and does the same with the rest of the world. The size of the Vatican does not save Catholicism from the charge of being the harlot on the seven hills.

Rome not the Vatican is the headquarters of the Church for the Pope claims to be bishop of Rome not bishop of the Vatican. The Vatican City and its size has no relevance.

The diocese of Rome is the head of the Catholic Church not the Vatican. That is why we can’t listen to people who say the Vatican City and Rome are two separate cities – physically and verbally they are not. The point they want to foist on us is that Rome can’t be the whore because Rome doesn’t run the Church but the Vatican does (see Pope Fiction page 102). The pope is bishop of Rome not the Vatican. Rome is the head diocese of the world.

The book Pope Fiction says that Revelation 17:9 says the whore is a city resting on seven hills using the word ore the Greek word for mountain. It concludes then that the whore is not Rome because Rome doesn’t rest on seven mountains but on seven small hills that aren’t even big enough to be called hills. Obviously unsure of itself the book then starts to say that mountains here could be a symbol for kingdoms. Yes the Bibles uses the mountain symbolism for kingdoms but it always says so when it does this. To say Revelation is being symbolic here leaves you unable to make any sense of it. The author is exaggerating the hills by calling them mountains to show that the city is very powerful and almost reaches up to heaven in its arrogance. Or perhaps the author did mean hills not mountains – many Bible translations have hills. Pope Fiction then dares to say the whore is Jerusalem – but there is no way it could be. Really! Jerusalem the seat of the true faith both in its Christian and Jewish forms could not be the whore of the earth or Babylon for only the city that is the worst for paganism and evil – Rome – could be.

Jerusalem is built on seven hills or mountains Zion, Moriah, Goath, Gareb, Acra, Bezetha and Ophel. As Jerusalem is to the Jews so Rome is to the Catholics.  Revelation may play on the similarities of the two cities to make this point.

Jerusalem or Pagan Rome did not make all ship-owners rich (18:19) and the prophecy says that the whore does.  The whore has to be Catholic Rome. This means that the Catholic Church is secretly supreme in world affairs for it is not plain that Rome is behind every industry. It is behind a world conspiracy. But it is certain that the Church of Rome is far more powerful than the Roman Empire ever was and has far more money and has its finger stuck in pies all over the world so what is said applies best to it. All Catholics are employees of the Church. They are required to spread the power and influence of the Church though most of them don’t do it. A Catholic ship-building company that has nothing to do with the Vatican would still be counted in prophecy as the whore owning the company.

The suggestion that the whore is Jerusalem must be seen for what it is. Pure anti-Semitism and advocacy of a violent fear and hatred of the Jews. The Roman Catholic Church is trying to encourage the suggestion and must pay the legal penalty.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses suggestion that the whore is just any religion that differs from theirs is unacceptable. Why did the author of Revelation go to so much trouble to disguise what he was saying if he just meant that? It was well known in those days that Christians despised other religions as false and satanic.

The whore was and is Catholic Rome.

WHORE OF BABYLON IS A RELIGION

The kings of the earth commit fornication with the whore so she is not a political empire. If she were, the kings would be described as part of her not outsiders that come to her for sinful delight to fornicate with her. The whore symbolises an evil spiritual empire with tremendous political influence. The fornication refers to spiritual fornication – turning away from God to make spiritual union with his enemy. “The great whore that sitteth upon many waters: with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication." (Rev. 17:1-2 KJV).  The kings of the earth joined Catholic Rome willingly.  Pagan Rome used force.  The kings cannot be described as fornicating with her.

The whore is drunk with the blood of the saints and she makes the nations drunk with her fornication and disobedience of God.  An empire could not be described as making the world drunk but a religion can.  A religion claims the right to order you what to believe and tries to make you addicted to its claims and "services".

The fornication is a symbol from Isaiah 1:21; Jeremiah 3:6-10, 13; Ezekiel 16:15-17, 28, 29, 38; Hosea 6:10; 7:11; 8:9, 10 for God’s people coming under the influence of pagan religion. The whore was Christian and became more and more pagan until she was a harlot not a Church.

When Babylon the Great falls the merchants of the earth stand watching and mourn (Revelation 18:15). Rome was always a commercial empire and Jerusalem never was - reminding us the whore is Rome not Jerusalem. Roman Catholicism enables many people to make money out of it and it has the greatest potential wealth in the world for if it needed any amount of money the faithful would give it. The whore is very wealthy (Revelation 18:17). Pagan Rome might have had more wealth to squander than Catholic Rome assuming the latter’s whining about running at a deficit is true but Rome is the centre of the richest Church in the world. It is all one Church with loads of money. And then there is the matter of the priceless treasures of the Church!

Revelation 18:13 says the merchants of the whore sell souls as well. This refers to the whore’s diabolical spiritual activities.

WHORE HAS A PRIESTHOOD

The Bible says that God only lets those who want to be deceived be deceived by Satan so that they end up in Hell forever. Revelation says that the whore and the Devil deceive the whole world so the whore is an insincere religion that knows the truth and presents lies as the truth in order to destroy the truth. A fake Christian Church would be the best and easiest way to do this. Therefore the whore is the Roman Catholic Church.

The whore dresses in purple and red. Catholic bishops wear purple and cardinals wear red.

Catholic apologists say that the red and purple dress means that the colours do not refer to clothes. They say the red is the blood of the martyrs of Christ killed by the whore and the purple refers to her claim to royalty. There is not a single hint of such an interpretation. It is plainer if you agree her dress was indeed red and purple. Revelation seeks to give clues about what the whore is.

It is no answer to say that white is more the colour of the Catholic Church. The red and the purple are the main colours of the whore because they signify her authority. The authorities in the Catholic Church the cardinals wear red and they choose the pope so they have great power. The bishops rule the Church and purple is their colour.

Here is what the Jewish law says about the colour of the priestly robes.

Exodus28:3 And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office.
Exodus28:4 And these are the garments which they shall make; a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe, and a broidered coat, a mitre, and a girdle: and they shall make holy garments for Aaron thy brother, and his sons, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office.
Exodus28:5 And they shall take gold, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen.
Exodus28:6 And they shall make the ephod of gold, of blue, and of purple, of scarlet, and fine twined linen, with cunning work.
Exodus28:7 It shall have the two shoulder pieces thereof joined at the two edges thereof; and so it shall be joined together.
Exodus28:8 And the curious girdle of the ephod, which is upon it, shall be of the same, according to the work thereof; even of gold, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen.

The whore wears all these colours. She is led by a priesthood. The colour blue alone is missing.

Again when John was making his symbolism he was thinking of Number 15:38 Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:

Num 15:39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring.

The whore doesn’t wear blue because she refuses to obey the commandments of God.  Her priesthood is made up of hypocrites who look like priests but who despise the commandments of God.  The priests claim to be priests of God.  They have the Bible and claim to preach it.  They should wear the blue ribband but they don't.  If they don't claim to be priests of God then there is no point in remarking their not having the blue ribbands or not using blue.  Blue isn't used in the Catholic liturgy at all.

The priesthood of the whore in using the colours and powers of the Old Testament priesthood is claiming to be the priesthood of God.  It is not a thoroughly pagan priesthood.  It is nominally Christian at least.

WHORE CLAIMS TO BE BRIDE OF CHRIST

The whore is called a whore for she should be the bride of Christ and she has turned away from him though she pretends to be the dutiful wife. To become the whore, the whore needs to replace the Christian faith with a counterfeit Christian faith without anybody noticing that the truth of God is gone. She has to block grace. Catholicism does that with its seven sacraments that can’t really work.

Revelation 17 says the whore rides on a scarlet beast with blasphemous names written all over it.  Pagan Rome did not indulge in specific blasphemy against Christianity for it did not take it seriously.  The Catholic Church detested true Christianity and today it tries to pollute it.  Revelation says the whore got the world drunk on the wine of her adulteries - the communion cup of the Catholic Church which it worships as a counterfeit of Jesus Christ.  The beast covered in blasphemy has seven heads.  The seven heads then are covered in blasphemies.  These heads used to be thought to be kingdoms.  Blasphemies are religious.  The beast has seven religious heads.  The seven heads are the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church.  The sacraments are central to the faith which is why they are represented as heads.  The identification fits because this stuff about the seven heads is sandwiched between references to the chalice of the whore.  Her cup is gold to indicate that it is beautiful and good on the outside and full of shit and what is detestable inside.  Early Christians knew that Pagan Rome made no effort to be hypocritical.  The description fits Catholic Rome.

The sacraments of Catholicism are paralleled in Revelation 6.  During a heavenly liturgy, the Lamb representing Jesus opens seven seals that give out seven curses.  The first seal is associated with a rider of a white horse who goes on a conquest . Baptism is the first sacrament and associated with white and purity from sin which it purports to forgive.   The second seal brings out a rider of red horse who removes peace from the earth.   Red for the blood of Christ.  This is the evil sacrament of the Eucharist which has caused the most bloodshed in Christendom and turned each Church into a communion of bigots.  The Eucharist is supposed to provide one with the body and blood of Christ in the form of bread and wine. The third seal brings out the rider of a black horse carrying scales - the sacrament of forgiveness of sins.  This sacrament is associated with getting rid of the blackness of sin and getting a person judged or weighed by God.  The fourth seal is a pale horse ridden by death and which is followed by Hell.  This is the sacrament of extreme unction or the anointing of the sick which damns its victims in Hades forever though they think it prepares them for death.  The fifth seal is linked to the sacrament of ordination.  Instead of priests at the altar, we are told we have saints crushed under the altar who howl for revenge.  They are given white robes to indicate that they are the real ministers of God.  The sixth seal is speaks of God crushing those who stand against him.  This relates to the sacrament of confirmation where people profess to stand for God.  They do not in reality and will suffer.  The seventh seal is responded to by a silence in Heaven that lasts a half an hour.  This implies that it is the least of the seven in badness.  This fits marriage.  Whereas marriage understood as a contract is fine, God has a problem with it being said to be a sacrament.  It as as good as it is bad hence the silence.  God doesn't want to comment.  But seven angels appear with seven trumpets to inflict retribution for the sacraments and they do that.  Confirming that the last has to do with marriage, we read later in Revelation that when the seventh trumpet was sounded it was revealed that God was going to marry his Church.

The sacrament of priests forgiving sins is the most obvious block to divine grace.  When the whore is going to pretend to be the bride of Christ she has to give out a counterfeit of God’s forgiveness. There is no way she can do that except by saying you have to go to man for God’s forgiveness or perhaps some angel or saint. The sacrament of reconciliation in which the priest allegedly forgives sins is a clear mark of the whore of Babylon. There the priest is told to forgive sins.  If priests forgive sins they do it on their own authority.  The view that they do it on God's authority makes no sense.  If God agrees to pardon the sins of somebody to whom I say, "I pardon you", it is God forgiving the sins.  I am not taking away the sins.  I am not forgiving sins.  God's agreeing to forgive and making it coincide with some act of mine does not mean I have power to forgive sins . It means the contrary.   The priest is taking the place of God and counterfeiting the forgiving power of God.   Because people only imagine that God has forgiven then they will get a shock on judgement day!

Some people say they get grace from the sacraments.  If Satan exists he can fake the effects of grace to delude Catholics more and more.

The whore is sure that she is a queen not a widow and secure on her throne she will never know suffering or sorrow (Revelation 18:7). This can only describe a religion which feels sure that it has supernatural protection. A political empire will not describe itself as a not being a widow but a religion will and the Church of Rome claims to be the Bride of Christ. No pagan religion claimed to be the bride of any God or his wife – Roman Catholicism is the only religion that was ever run from Rome that did. Her boast, “No widow am I”, is an odd thing to say. Its like something a religion that claimed its husband came back from the dead in a resurrection would say.

One of the main claims of the Roman Catholic Church is that it is mother and the spiritual queen of God’s reign on earth and will never depart from the faith or be utterly destroyed. Revelation certainly cannot mean that the queen expects no suffering or sorrow at all. It must but it means it expects nothing major. This fits the Roman Catholic Church.

The whore boasts that she is not a widow (Revelation 18:7). The boast is important. Her husband is dead or has been.  You would only boast about not being a widow if people had reason to think you were and if the spouse had returned from the dead. She is saying he is alive or risen from the dead. The whore therefore claims to be the bride of Christ just like the Catholic Church does. Pagan Rome had a lot of theological flexibility and so does New Age religion which is why they are not the whore for the whore claims to be the bride of one dying and rising god. Roman Catholicism makes a profession of faith to one God, Jesus.

The prophecies about the whore refer to a religion because it rides on the beast that did miracles (13:13, 14) and enjoined the adoration of false gods (13:14). The beast put a mark on his servants without which they couldn’t buy or sell - 13:16,17. The beast is a symbol for a spiritual entity and the mark is a spiritual mark. Roman Catholicism claims that once a person is baptised that person gets a spiritual mark that cannot be effaced. Without that mark one cannot buy Heaven or sell it. It is very unlikely that the mark would be a physical mark. Revelation is about evil spiritual forces after all. Catholic baptism administers the mark of the beast.  Some think the mark is the invisible spiritual mark put on priests at their ordination.  They think the priests are a better fit than the merely baptised. They buy and sell souls to the Devil.  But Revelation says the mark is forced on all people, slaves and free so baptism would fit this better.  Priests are not forced into ordination.  Babies are forced to take the mark of baptism.  Also, adults take baptism to avoid the everlasting torture of Hell so they are forced too.

The Book of Revelation says the brand mark is stamped onto the victim's right hand or their forehead (13:16).  This reference to the right hand and forehead is a quotation from Exodus 13.  This chapter is about the passover meal regulations for the Jews.  It says that the Passover will be a mark on the hand and forehead.  So the mark in Revelation is a religious mark.  In Deuteronomy 6:8 we read that God wants the command to love him totally to be on the wrist as a sign and as a pendant on the forehead.  11:18 has God saying the whole thing about the Book of Deuteronomy's entire body of teachings and commandments.  This is telling us that the mark is the mark of a religion that pretends to serve the God of the Bible.  Pagan Rome never pretended to do that.  The text must mean counterfeit Christianity.  Roman Catholicism is the only possible candidate.  The text follows Exodus 13 better than the others so that was Revelation's prime focus.  It turns up in the context of the Passover.  The Catholic Church's Mass is the Church's Passover.  The Mass is only for those who have been marked in baptism.  Considering all this, the mark of the beast is baptism as the gateway to the Catholic passover.  The mark is evil and the Mass is an abomination.  Revelation 16:2 states that the punishment of terrible boils will befall all who bear the mark and those that worship the beast.  The two categories show that merely having the mark will attract plague from Heaven.

The mention of buying and selling seems hard to fit with the Catholic Church.  It can sound like the book is describing a political and trading empire.  Now the Vatican does not buy and sell all over the world.  But the ordinary Catholics do.  These Catholics form countries that make laws.  The Church as distinct from the Vatican is responsible for this.  People buy and sell ultimately because they are permitted by the Catholic Church through the laws made by Catholic states. 

The whore is contrasted with the Bride of Christ which means the true followers of Jesus. It is called the whore because instead of following Jesus it turned away from him to whoredom with Satan. A prostitute is always a good woman at first so it refers to an apostate Church. It is the whore for it has no excuse for having turned bad for it had the gospel and still retains some of it so it is not pagan Rome that the Book of Revelation is about. The whore is called a whore because she is unfaithful and you can’t be faithful unless you were faithful first. The whore is talked about like a female because it claims to be the bride of Christ. Also, Romanism claims to be the Holy Mother Church while the harlot is the mother of harlots according to Revelation 17. If the Book of Revelation is prophetic it must refer to the Roman Church or a new Roman Church that will be headquartered in Rome. (Some Catholics say it refers to a future fake and apostate Roman Catholic Church that will boot the true Roman Church out of Rome.) Which?  It cannot refer to anything other than Roman Catholicism for why wait for a new candidate when the existing one ticks all the right boxes for being the whore?

Some Christians teach that Jesus will come a second time to reign on earth for 1,000 years and this is yet to happen.  This is because of Revelation 20:4.  The Roman Catholic Church and many Protestant Churches teach that 1,000 years is just a symbol for an indefinitely long period.  They say that that this proves that this millennium is just a symbol for the time between when Jesus came as man to earth long ago and his second coming.  See New Commentary on Holy Scripture  and The Incredible Creed of Jehovah's Witnesses (page 18).  Now it could be that Christ is being said to reign on earth from his second coming to the end of the world but not necessarily for a literal 1,000 years but for a very long time.  There is no hint that the coming the verse refers to is the first coming of Jesus as man when he was born in Bethlehem.  Also, Revelation stresses that Jesus is coming again soon.  It could not contradict this by saying that Jesus will not return until a very very long time after his birth.   Also, Revelation warns that Satan will do the best deceptions yet.  And it says that Satan will be chained and unable to deceive all the nations during the reign.  This implies he was able to do it before and did it for the angel who imprisoned him had to lock and seal the abyss where he was confined.  If the Catholic interpretation of the reign is right then there is a contradiction!  Also Revelation says that holy people who have been put to death will be resurrected to reign with Christ during the period.  This can only be referring to something yet to come.

The Church only rejects the proper interpretation of Revelation 20:4 for it implies that nearly all people - if not all - were deceived by Satan until the angel stopped him.  This would mean that the Church was apostate or very likely to be apostate and in the service of the Devil.  The Roman Catholic Church claims to be the bride of Christ.  This is a lie so it is really the bride of Satan.

THE WHORE DRUNK ON BLOOD

The whore sits upon many waters  (Rev 17:1-5)- baptism in water is necessary to become Catholic.  The Catholic Church sits on the waters of baptism.

The whore rode on a scarlet beast that was covered in blasphemous titles (Revelation 7:3). The Roman Catholic Church has been famous for blasphemy, making the saints better than God, worshipping bread as Jesus, calling the pope the Holy Father, infallible, and His Holiness and so on. The scarlet is probably for blood. Rome has spilled plenty of that. And despite the reputation Islam has for being thirsty for war against heretics and unbelievers the fact remains that Roman Catholicism alone of the biggest world faiths has statements calling for such murdering in its infallible statements. You can find these calls to war and violence on the ETWN website. Papal tradition and the whole Church approved of torture and the killing of heretics and modern Rome still teaches that whatever papal tradition says is infallible.

Lateran IV, 1215 AD, an infallible council of the Church stated:

We excommunicate and anathematize every heresy raising itself up against this holy, orthodox and catholic faith which we have expounded above. We condemn all heretics, whatever names they may go under. They have different faces indeed but their tails are tied together inasmuch as they are alike in their pride. Let those condemned be handed over to the secular authorities present, or to their bailiffs, for due punishment. Clerics are first to be degraded from their orders. The goods of the condemned are to be confiscated, if they are lay persons, and if clerics they are to be applied to the churches from which they received their stipends. Those who are only found suspect of heresy are to be struck with the sword of anathema, unless they prove their innocence by an appropriate purgation, having regard to the reasons for suspicion and the character of the person. Let such persons be avoided by all until they have made adequate satisfaction. If they persist in the excommunication for a year, they are to be condemned as heretics. Let secular authorities, whatever offices they may be discharging, be advised and urged and if necessary be compelled by ecclesiastical censure, if they wish to be reputed and held to be faithful, to take publicly an oath for the defence of the faith to the effect that they will seek, in so far as they can, to expel from the lands subject to their jurisdiction all heretics designated by the church in good faith. Thus whenever anyone is promoted to spiritual or temporal authority, he shall be obliged to confirm this article with an oath. If however a temporal lord, required and instructed by the church, neglects to cleanse his territory of this heretical filth, he shall be bound with the bond of excommunication by the metropolitan and other bishops of the province. If he refuses to give satisfaction within a year, this shall be reported to the supreme pontiff so that he may then declare his vassals absolved from their fealty to him and make the land available for occupation by Catholics so that these may, after they have expelled the heretics, possess it unopposed and preserve it in the purity of the faith — saving the right of the suzerain provided that he makes no difficulty in the matter and puts no impediment in the way. The same law is to be observed no less as regards those who do not have a suzerain.

The whore carries a gold chalice.

The chalice is a major emblem in the Church. For most its history the Church has required that chalices should if possible be gilded with gold in the inside. So the Mass is being designated as a tool of the whore.

Catholics say this cannot be correct because it was said that God gave her the chalice of the wine of his wrath (Revelation 16:19). This was a different chalice for the next chapter says she is enjoying herself with a cup and she is drunk on the blood of the people of God.

It is blood she has in the chalice for we are told a few verses later that she is drunk on blood. The whore is blamed for all the murders of prophets and presumably Jesus himself – she is the manifestation of the occult power that was behind this evil so her coming centuries after the death of a prophet doesn’t mean she was innocent of his death. So she has a chalice of Jesus’ blood! The Church says that the blood of Jesus in the Mass is linked to the blood of the saints for Jesus and the Church are like one body with Jesus as the head and the members of the Church like his limbs and parts.  Paul taught that we are parts of the body of Christ.  The whore then in a sense, when she drinks the chalice, drinks the blood of all the saints of God.  She gets drunk because the chalice contains the blood in the form of wine.

The whore is drunk with the blood of the saints. The Roman Church killed more believers in Jesus than any other organisation even the Roman Empire. John saw the whore and she was drunk with blood and said he was totally astonished (17.6) at this. This indicates that it was a professing Christian Church that was behaving this way for he knew the true Christians would be persecuted in great numbers so the organisation that was doing the killing must have been the surprise bit. He knew the Roman Empire too well to be surprised about anything it got up to. It was not a political or commercial empire. Even if you think it was the blood that he was shocked to the uttermost by it is clear that Christian Rome killed more Christian people than pagan Rome ever did. Besides Revelation says it was seeing her that was the shock. He was shocked that a Church could have done this.

ROMANISM TOO CHRISTIAN TO BE THE WHORE?

The Bible speaks of Roman Catholicism as the whore and virtually calls it antichrist.

The Catholics prefer to hold that it is Jerusalem that is the whore.  The whore is all over the earth meaning that if the Catholics are right, all Jews are part of the whore.  But the Jews were no better or worse than any other race.  Today most Catholics fail the standards of their own religion.  Back then most Jews would have tried to be faithful to their religion.  Either way, you cannot cite the seeming decency of most Jews or most Catholics as evidence that they are not part of the whore.

Judaism does not claim that sin deserves everlasting torment and that religious crimes are the worst sins.  Catholicism does.  Thus if you believe in it  you make yourself a huge sinner when you transgress.  It would be easy to be part of the whore.

The objection that the Roman Church is a Christian Church or at least is Christian enough not to be the whore fails because the Church has no evidence from scripture that scripture is to be interpreted in the light of Roman Catholic tradition so the Church puts herself above the divine authority of the scriptures meaning it is not Christian for to be Christian you have to accept the divine authority properly. A wife who thinks she is being a wife when she cheats on her husband with her lover is not being a wife at all for she has broken the authority her husband received over her on her wedding day. In the same way Roman Catholicism is not a Christian communion.

The Samaritans were a schismatic branch of Judaism and were very similar in doctrine and practice to their mother faith Judaism. Jesus Christ told a Samaritan woman that the Samaritans worship what they do not know while the Jews do know so that the Samaritans were not real worshippers of God despite all the praying and rites they did (John 4:22,23). Jesus was doctrinally rigid.

There is nothing in the prophecies in Revelation that conflicts with the nature and deeds of the Roman Church so it has to be her that is meant. A rational God would not give a prediction that confuses (1 Corinthians 14:33). Let those Christian books that say that the Church of Rome is the number one suspect stop saying it for it is the only suspect. Catholicism must be the harlot when God wants us to think that she is.

Some object that the whore rules over the kings of the earth and there are no kings now. But kings just stand for rulers or presidents. In many parts of the world there were tribal chiefs and not kings so the term king described them too for they were kings in a way.

Catholicism, the Bible tells us, is the harlot and the mother of all harlots – fellowships that prefer her to God. So she has other harlots who are her daughters but she is the worst. She was the first harlot so she is an old Church not a new one. That is why those who hope Revelation predicts the coming of a false Church that is not here yet are wrong. We must remember that Revelation calls the whore a harlot. That word would be a more accurate translation than whore. Harlot means religious prostitute. The whore is undoubtedly a religion. Harlot would be a suitable symbol for a Christian Church that apostatised or abandoned the faith than for the paganism of Rome which was not marked by any unusual sexual profligacy.

Revelation speaks of one whore not many for the whore is distinguished from her harlot daughters (17:5). The harlots are not the prostitutes we see on the street. Since the whore is an organisation it follows that her daughters are organisations too. Many of the Protestant Churches are getting closer to Catholic theology and becoming her daughters. This is why the Ecumenical Movement is seen to be a major means of the whore fooling the world.

Paul taught that our sins were transferred to Christ's account enabling us to be made as if we never sinned before God and each other.  One reason for this was to deliver people from the burden of keeping the Law to get right with God and saved and from the tendency to self-righteousness this burden caused.  This idea seeks to avoid the hypocrisy of love the sinner and hate the sin.   Catholicism says that no transfer takes place but orders us to love the sinner but to detest and hate the sin.  This is really hating the sinner.  The sin is not an entity, the person is the entity.  Roman Catholicism is based on a hypocritical lie and on the pretence that hating the sinful character of a person is not hating the person.  It is pretending that your personal feelings about being sin or hurt by a person are not for the person.  This lie is so basic and important that it proves that all Rome's virtues are fake and its God is a liar.

The whore uses beautiful things and she looks beautiful and has the best purple and scarlet clothing. A whore charms people to seduce them and make them think it is good to be with her. It is foolish then for Christians to argue that Catholicism is not the whore for it seems so nice and Christian for the Bible plainly indicates that looking nice and caring can be a deception for Satan and his ministers make sure they look kindly and attract people with Satan preferring to appear not as a demon but as an angel of God. The whore has to fool the world so she has to turn a sweet face to the world but behind everybody’s back when she is sure she has covered her tracks she shows her true colours. The evil of the pope and the bishops who have covered up years of child sex abuse carried out by priests, nuns and monks in a scheme to discourage the victims from speaking out so that the abuse could continue and it would be too long to try and get compensation out of the Church is just something like the evil system pictured as the whore in Revelation would do. Pagan Rome was hated and did anything but charm the world with its pastime of crucifixion and suppression so the whore is some organisation based in Rome that came after pagan Rome.

WHORE USES EVIL OCCULT POWER

The Book of Revelation sees the whore as an occult power that uses witchcraft to fool the nations – so she evidently seems nicer than she really is. In 18:23 it reads “by your magic spells and poisonous charm all nations were led astray”. This tells us the reason the whore can be behind everything evil, it has magical powers with which to delude the world. Some believe the Church is behind everything evil in the sense that it works with the Devil and increases his power and influence in the world. This is true too of the whore as described in Revelation but it also has occult power. The whore would naturally do all it could to deceive people all over the world so that they think they are in touch with God while it is the Devil who they are really in touch with. The whore would have to be the largest religion in the world to do this. The evil it does lives on after it is done and infects other religions and pollutes the rulers of the world forever which is how it has so much power to do evil. This indicates then that the whore has been the whore for a long time. It would need to have been in order to defile the world meaning nearly everybody has tasted and been polluted by its power. Jesus said we must expect him back at any moment therefore he is telling us that Catholicism is the whore and has been for a long long time.

Read the verse again. It says the whore is charming. So is the Roman Church and the pope certainly fools people with his smiles and his lies and gets respect despite the fact that the evidence that he is really the infallible head of the Church is so bad and at best ambiguous that he must have deliberately stolen his office. The charm that beguiles the world indicates that the Church pretends to be nice but does lots of evil behind the scenes and gets away with it. The excessive cruelty in Church institutions and priests raping children would be the tip of the iceberg if that is true.

Only the Catholic Church could be the whore. Its doctrines alone would be enough to prove it. It’s paganism and lies and magic tricks with miracles and priests make it the modern day manifestation of ancient Babylon with its paganism and corruption.

Babylon has to give us a god who is not the true God. Catholicism does that with the communion bread believed to be Jesus Christ. Babylon has to give us many gods. Catholicism does that for the saints are more powerful than God. God is their subject because they influence God which means they are stronger.  Nothing can influence an all-wise and all-powerful perfect being unless it is wiser and more powerful than it. The Church says it believes in salvation by the blood of Jesus. But its Jesus has little value compared with the saints so his blood cannot save. Babylon has to prevent the word of God speaking for itself. Roman Catholicism does that with its doctrine that the pope and the Church and tradition are the interpretators of scripture. It is an interpretation that is believed in not the scriptures for interpretations are like clouds in front of the moon.

The Catholic Church seeks guidance from angels and saints in prayer. It also agrees with people meeting up with saints in visions. There is no biblical warrant for accepting messages from the dead. It is spiritualism. The Roman Church is an occult sect. It will say that the beings are holy and love God and are sent from God but spiritualists say the same about the beings they encounter. The God of Rome is worse than the Devil because he causes sin for he prevented Mary from ever sinning and will not grant the rest of us the same favour. Nearly every Roman Catholic doctrine implies that God is Satan and worse for Satan tempts but God goes a step further! Revelation ends with a warning that nobody has the right to change a single word in it because it contains warnings for tough times in the future when the Church has to deal with the coming of the whore and all that. It curses anybody that tries to tamper. Pope Sixtus V produced a messy Bible and ordered the whole Church to accept it on pain of excommunication. Can a Protestant see this as coincidence?

We know that the saints Catholicism prays to are really pagan gods and they deny that God is really supreme or really God.

The Virgin Mary is the goddess in Catholicism that corresponds to the goddess Semiramus in Babylon. Her Jesus is the Nimrod of Babylon for he is an idol for the Church worships a wafer as Jesus and cannot honour God because it cannot cleanse from sin.

We know that Jesus Christ was not God so the Jesus the Church adores as God the Son is a mocking idol of Jesus. The Church then offers one of the other Jesuses the apostle Paul warned us about that couldn’t save.

We know that the Church says it can make babies children of God and wash their souls of sin by baptism which contradicts the Bible. The result is that the Church consists of fake children of God and is a fake Christian Church.

The Catholic Church teaches lots of untrue doctrines. It has Catholics taking fake forgiveness of sins from priests who cannot forgive sins.  The book, By Faith Alone, RC Sproul, (Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1995) proves that Protestantism is true Christianity because it teaches that salvation is by faith alone without sacraments which contradicts the Catholic view that you need sacraments. The Church of Rome objects that this means that you are your own Church. This is hypocrisy for they know that the Bible advises a Christian to join a Church but doesn’t however state that it is necessary for salvation or a sin not to bother. The Christian is put into a family when he converts and is expected to join a Church that teaches the Bible for fellowship and the Christian if he loves God will not be his own Church but will obey the voice of God in the Bible. Even the Church of Rome teaches that the sacraments are no good unless you open your heart up to God for salvation so if this is not being your own Church they should not be saying Protestants are guilty of that for there is no difference.

The Catholic Church keeps people away from God just as much as God says idolatry does.

The Church corrupts people by making them depend on sacraments that do not work to make them better people. . A faith that fails to do more good than bad with its powers is to blame for anything evil that its people do. But there is nothing a good Catholic does that cannot be explained by just the goodness in human nature.

We know that the communion bread and wine that Rome worships is not Jesus Christ. So Roman Catholicism commits the greatest sin of all according to the Bible, idolatry. Rome says that it worships Jesus in the Eucharist but that is not the point. If the Eucharist is not Jesus then it is bread and wine that are adored. Rome lies knowing fine well that the Law of Moses forbade the worship of images of God such as the golden calf. Nobody adores a statue just because it is a statue but because it is thought to be a link to the God but Rome goes further by claiming that the wafer is Jesus.

We know that the Roman Church opposes the gospel of salvation by faith alone which is the Bible gospel. The Bible says that you are saved by faith and that is not of yourself and isn’t your work so that you cannot boast and you are chosen to do good works (Ephesians 2:8,10). Catholics claim that faith is not infused by God like this and isn’t enough to mark you out as saved – you need to make your own input so you can boast.

The Church arbitrarily distinguishes between sin that does not deserve Hell and sin that does which contradicts reason and the Bible which say all does and means people are dying in sin they think will not take them to Hell which actually does. Thus the Church prepares people for death who are not prepared to meet God at all though they think they are.

The Catholic Church held more Jubilee years when it was having money difficulties to attract more tourists to Rome to get and indulgence, a remission of the punishment for sin, it’s a gospel that can be used commercially (page 38, By Faith Alone).

The ideal in Catholicism is to obey the pope without question as the Vicar of Christ. We can’t see if Jesus gets any benefit from this so this is no different at all from the pope actually claiming to be God or Jesus. Practically, where it counts there is no difference.

There are countless other reasons why the Catholic Church is not the Church of Christ but a counterfeit.

If Catholicism is not the whore then the Book of Revelation is not divinely inspired for it is full of useless predictions about a universal whore Church that nobody can make sense of. But the book says it can be understood for how could we be blessed in learning what it says (Revelation 1:3) when we cannot understand it to learn?

The whore will fool the world so she must make herself appear loving and caring above all other organisations so her charity work and spirituality will seem to be outstanding but are really part of her kiss of death. The prophecy is no good if it will be fulfilled privately or in a way that nobody can see easily. Therefore only those who are not superficial and who take God’s word for it will see the whore for what she is and only because of what God says for there are many whores. Revelation identifies the whore and says she is a whore no matter how beautiful and attractive she makes herself.

ROMAN CATHOLIC JESUS IS THE BEAST

Revelation 17 speaks of the whore and her beast that she is so closely associated with. The beast was once.  The beast then was not, that is ceased to exist.  The beast then lived again. This could be the Roman Catholic Jesus who like the Jesus of the apostles lived and died and rose again. He is the beast for he is not Jesus but a clever counterfeit. The beast went into perdition after its return to life signifying that Rome will soon turn its god into pure evil.  The apostle Paul warned against other Jesuses meaning the Jesus of people who seemed to be speaking of his Jesus but who didn't believe the right things about him.  For Paul who believed that Jesus died to atone for sins in our stead anybody coming along believing in Jesus but who had a different idea of what Jesus did was offering another Jesus.  For Paul, to have wrong ideas about Jesus' role as saviour was to have the wrong Jesus just as much as it would be if somebody said that Jesus was not the saviour but Ezekiel was and that this Ezekiel did the things that Jesus did in the gospels.

Revelation 13 says that the whole earth will honour an idol of the beast that was wounded by a sword and still lived and there will be miracles in its support and nobody was allowed to sell or buy anything without the number of the beast which was 666. 666 fits Nero for the letters in his name add up to it in Roman numerals but the details about him do not suggesting that Revelation is either false prophecy or it is about somebody else here. The author said his readers would know who 666 was if they studied a minute. But perhaps these readers had other prophecies too that would have given them the clue for they must have had when the author expected them to listen to his rambling and bizarre book meaning they were used to that type of thing. The evidence is against the Nero identification and there is no evidence for it. Nero did not get the whole world to worship him. It may be that you are supposed to tell from world events who the 666 is and not just the prophecy. This would mean that there is no justification for the Nero interpretation.

The New Jerusalem, representing the saved Christian Church, according to Revelation is 12 by 12 by 12.  These dimensions are a counterpoint to the number of the Beast 666.  This is intended to show us something.  The Beast as 6 6 6 is really half of 12 12 12.  The Beast then represents the false Christian Church which is only half right but because of its dark other half it is a beast and an abomination.  It is called a beast to show that we must abhor its doctrines and consider them animal and not human.

The number of the Christian Trinity is 3. It has been said that 333 x 2 is 666 and this is what Revelation is getting at.  333 stands for the Trinity.  The 2 stands for the two natures in Jesus Christ.  If so, then all faiths that teach that God is three persons and that Jesus is by nature fully man and by nature fully God are satanic and blasphemous.  Some Catholics say that 333 is the symbol of divinity so whoever is 666 is putting himself above God.  The previous explanation is better because Revelation itself should contain the clues of the meaning of the 666.  And we are given that by it being half of 12 12 12.

The Jesus of the Catholics is the Beast.  St Paul condemned those who honoured Jesus but who had a different gospel from his for their Jesus was a fake and not the real Jesus.

THE WHORE WILL BE DESTROYED

Those who interpret Revelation as pointing the finger at the Roman Church as the whore of Babylon do so because the book says that the visions in it will be fulfilled soon (Revelation 22:6).  Accordingly, they hold that the whore was to come soon after the Book of Revelation was finished which matches the arrival of the Roman Catholic Church.

God says we must pay the harlot or whore back for her crimes which are piled as high as heaven (Revelation 18:5,6). Revelation calls Christians to hatred and war against the whore - a fact that even the most hardline Protestant chooses to forget. The Bible obligates the Christians to create a nuclear bomb and detonate it in Rome.

Revelation 18:8 says of the harlot that all her plagues and famines and sorrow shall come on her in a single day and that she shall be consumed with fire. The fire could come after the famine. Naturally it would for famines last a long time and especially for such a big outfit as the whore. The plagues and famine will spread to the outreaches of the whore because it makes no sense to hold that they would be okay and not help her so they are in big trouble too. The cry to come out of her to avoid the plagues and famine hints that you will be singled out for supernatural attack and the divine vengeance no matter where you reside. True followers of Christ will be spared as long as they separate from the whore.

The Revelation’s prophecies refer not to the pagan Roman system as it was when the prophet wrote but to a future one that will see the final and permanent destruction of its Roman headquarters (18:21-24).  Pagan Rome never experienced such destruction.  Some say that this proves it was not meant for the Bible makes no mistakes in predicting the future.  Roman Catholicism is forced to ignore the assertion of Revelation that the great city that is the whore will be destroyed and never found again for that PROVES Revelation does not discuss pagan Rome at all but Roman Catholic Rome. The prophecies about the whore refer to a world religion centred in Rome which is the most powerful organisation in the world (17:2, 15). The Catholics say this excludes the Vatican which is only a small state in Rome but it is undeniable that the Catholic Church has more political power and influence than the Roman Empire had over its own provinces. This isn’t even mentioning the unbelievable spiritual power. Catholic Rome, because of a warmongering apparition in Fatima in 1917 of a being pretending to be the Virgin Mary that incited hatred against Communists, was able to use manipulations on politicians that led to the eventual fall of communism. Pagan Rome threatened dissidents with legal penalties, the Roman Church does better by threatening them with divine justice and eternal damnation. Pagan Rome allowed discussions but Roman Catholicism only allows it in a tight framework with so many restrictions that it might as well not bother allowing them. It is a dogmatic religion that claims to be incapable of error even when it doesn’t use its gift of infallibility. The descriptions fit Catholic Rome better than Pagan Rome.

Jesus told us what signs would indicate the nearness of his second coming. He gave ones that would not make it absolutely certain (Matthew 24:25). To give us ones that were too clear would be encouraging us to devote ourselves to the Devil’s ways in confidence while planning to repent when the unmistakeable signs arrive. Jesus’ return will be unexpected (Matthew 25) so he told us to be ready at all times just in case (Matthew 24:42). If Roman Catholicism is not the harlot of Antichrist spoken of in Revelation then Jesus was wrong for we would know he cannot come back until the Antichrist religion appears, until a new world Church headquartered in Rome becomes the supreme force in the world. So it has to be the present Church of Rome. Say it was not, then Jesus does not mind us considering Roman Catholicism to be the whore and fearing it. He wants us to suspect it which shows what he thinks of its morality and its doctrines. They must be so far away from real Christianity that he wants us to believe that the Church could be the Antichrist religion.

The objection to this argument is that Christ’s promise cannot prove that it is Catholicism for when Christians don’t see Rome destroyed like Revelation 18 says they can be sure that he is not on his way and can live it up and then repent when it happens. But true Christians those who were told to be prepared at all times, won’t be on the earth when it happens. They will be assumed body and soul into Heaven to meet Jesus in the clouds and their Heaven will begin then (1 Thessalonians 4). At the same time, the angels will destroy all who do not belong to God (2 Thessalonians 1). We must be ready at all times for we do not know when we will disappear from the earth to meet the Lord in the clouds. The objection does not succeed. And besides the destruction of Rome could be so rapid that even people living in Italy might not even have a chance to find out what happened. Revelation says that in the whore of Babylon was found the blood of prophets and saints and of all who had been slaughtered on earth (Revelation 18:24). This has to mean that she causes a world war. The whole earth is involved which has never happened yet. The last two world wars only involved a great part of the world but this war seems to be even worse and more universal. And after that then Babylon is destroyed and then the Lamb of God has his wedding feast indicating that his true Church is all in Heaven by then. If parts of the whore declare war she is still involved. It is not necessary to excuse the whore for say World War Two on the grounds that it was caused by a son of the whore, Hitler, and not the pope. The whore being an organisation cannot be expected to avoid inner disagreements. But the pope never excommunicated Hitler and regarded him as a Catholic so the Church did kill millions by causing World War Two.

It is clearly unsafe and irresponsible to belong to the Roman Catholic Church when it could be Antichrist’s cult. It is our duty to remain by the safe side. And this remains true even if Rome is not the Antichrist but will become it. You have to keep out of organisations that the Devil will use. Those who turn to Christ and stay in Catholicism will lose their salvation for they are apostates from Christ (Hebrews 6) and commit a sin that will never be forgiven. When you turn to Jesus you must leave the Church of Rome straightaway. God says you have to come out of Roman Catholicism in case you get a share of the plagues with which he will punish her: “I then heard another voice from heaven saying, Come out from her, my people, so that you may not share in her sins, neither participate in her plagues” (Revelation 18:4). This verse refers specifically to Rome and the chapter speaks of the world mourning when it sees the smoke of the conflagration rise up. But we would share in her sins if we supported her say even in Africa so the verse is still telling us to have nothing to do with the Roman administration at all.

The whore will persecute anybody who leaves her and Revelation is saying it is better to risk that than to stay in her. When the Lord starts attacking the whore she will be more lethal than ever and yet God commands that we leave her. This shows the extent of his revulsion.

The Bible does not want people to be confused about the identity of the whore. It would expect people to approach its message with simplicity for it is an urgent warning. Using that principle, the Roman Catholic religion being led by Rome is enough to show that Revelation points the finger at it being the whore.

CONCLUSION

The Bible identifies the Roman Church as the apostate whore of Babylon and the pope as the Antichrist. This warns that their doctrines are dangerous. Protestants must be persuaded of this so that their efforts to ruin the credibility of the Roman Catholic faith may have greater success. Protestantism is more open to sceptical influence than Catholicism which is why it is better to promote it as the lesser evil.
